Playing with Java

I’ve been tinkering with some Java lately, using Netbeans as an IDE, looking at learning how to build a simple little times table education application.

I started off thinking in terms of classes, even staring at a blank page in Umbrello for a while to draw some UML, before realising that really the better way to approach it was to think about the different functions I needed and start building them.

So far I’ve got random numbers, random operators (for additions, subtractions and divisions, too, of course), and can generate both correct and incorrect answers – not as easy as you might think to do! – and can generate some strings of example sums.

Who knows whether/when I’ll get further, but you know what? It’s fun having a go!
